Last week, I attended the CAP Conference hosted in Whitehorse! School Principals from every province and territory came to savour a taste of the Yukon. Familiar local educators and students shared some of the fabulous things happening in Yukon Education, including an awesome presentation by teachers James Mitchell, Andrea Webber and three Gr.6/7 students, describing the wonderful learning experience of their Bison Hunt. We also benefitted from some powerful presentations from nationally recognized experts. I really enjoyed the inspirational stories of Gabrielle Scrimshaw, named as "One of 3 Young Aboriginal Canadians to Watch". John Malloy spoke about using Inquiry to help schools become effective learning organizations, which linked nicely with how Yukon schools are working collaboratively to build School Growth Plans. And finally, Yukon's own Ilona Dougherty spoke passionately about the unique abilities of young people. The intergenerational gaps are not as wide as they sometimes appear!
